Experiential Graphic Design

[XGD] (formerly known as Environmental Design) is an interdisciplinary field that combines graphic design, architecture, fine art, lighting, landscape design, interior design, and more to create spatial experiences that are immersive, interactive, and meaningful. It empowers physical spaces to create extraordinary experiences, connecting people and places.

Features and Challenges.

• Navigation. Helping people navigate
• Placemaking. Creating a distinct "atmosphere" or identity for a place
• Exhibition design. Telling a narrative through 3D space
• Branded environments. Integrating OOH messages directly into architecture

Initially, the term “environmental graphic design” was preferred, but due to its false association with environmental and green initiatives, it has become less commonly used.
The industry has changed not only in name: what was once considered only traditional signage and landmarks has evolved into a comprehensive experience in the built environment
